A Weekend In Dallas: The Color Purple + Perot Museum
One thing I really love about my lovely city of Dallas is that there seems to always be something to do. Whether it be a concert, a museum, going to a new restaurant you've never tried before, or just driving around to do a bunch of sight seeing. I had a couple of fun weekends in Dallas recently so I'm here to share them with you. Unfortunately, I didn't take that many pictures (I'm so sorry) but I'm gonna try my best to put as much content as I can even if it means pulling from sources around the interwebs.
Up first, we have my attendance of going to see the Broadway production of The Color Purple at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Downtown Dallas. I've never actually been to a play or musical before in my life so I was SUPER excited to see this one! Unless you count seeing High School Musical 1 & 2: On Ice! and a high school production of Peter Pan that I barely remember because I was literally five.
Anyhoo, this was such a beautiful performance and I'm really happy I was able to see it. The stage was simple and I quite honestly didn't know what to expect. I've never actually seen the movie but I've seen snippets. My mom LOVES this movie and she actually went a few years prior and saw it live and absolutely loved it. This time around, I was old enough to come along. Yay me. My sister actually surprised my mom with the tickets so we were able to all go together which was really nice. Anyway, about the actual performance. I obviously didn't take any pictures or videos of the songs and scenes but wow, was I blown away.
Even though the movie has a lot more of the story-line to show, I was still able to get a good idea of the story. A strong woman who learns how to stand on her own two feet and fight back against her struggles that keep beating her down. I love me a good girl-power statement and this was it. The songs, the acting, the characters, it was all just so good, I really don't know what else to say about it. The theater was beautiful and even though it was a little bit terrifying to be sitting up so high with nothing protecting me from falling to my death should I lean forward more than two inches, it was great! But seriously though, I loved that I was able to see this performance and do something I've never done before.
Getting to dress up all fancy like too wasn't half bad either. Also having a nice brunch with my sister and mom was probably the best part of it all, not even gonna lie there.

NOW FOR DINOSAURS!
So for as long as I've lived in Dallas, I've been to maybe only a handful of the museums scattered around the city. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science has been on my list for literal years so finally getting able to go was a dream come true. What can I say, I love me some dinosaurs and fossils! Obviously the actual science parts of the museum were cool but come on, a giant skeleton of a mammoth is pretty freaking cool!
I'm a bit of a nerd, that's no secret. I love going to museums and seeing new things that maybe I didn't really know much about before going somewhere that just surrounds me with the subject. From space, to the science of tornadoes and huge displays of creatures that once roamed the earth millions of years ago, it was an incredible sight to see. I know I probably looked dumb as I couldn't keep my mouth shut for more than three seconds because I was just so amazed by everything around me. If you couldn't tell, the dinosaurs were my favorite part and I wish I could just spend all day and night there just to see if they actually come alive. What person doesn't have that dream, like come on now.
I don't really know where my obsession with dinosaurs came from. Whether it be Godzilla, Jurassic Park or watching The Land Before Time way too often when I was five, I love me some dinosaurs. I think any science geek would love this museum so if you live in Dallas and have been considering going yourself, please do and take lots of pictures. It's worth it ten times over! Or if you're just as oddly obsessed with dinosaurs as I am, you'll also enjoy it, trust me. Until next time!
