Hello there! To start off, I've always thought of myself as a good saver. Being the young adult that I am, I like to think sometimes I have my life together and I know where I'm going in life and know exactly how to get there. They're all lies. I have no idea what I'm doing besides how to successfully binge watch all three seasons of Stranger Things and how to comfortably take naps all day long.
At some point, most recently actually, I've realized I'm actually not the best saver ever. Don't get me wrong, I'm young and am not really expecting to know how to save money efficiently and know how to budget myself, but at the same time I want to be that one young adult that knows how to do those things. I like knowing that I'll be able to put a good chunk of money away into my savings again and again and slowly see the number get bigger and prettier as time goes on.
I've actually begun my "Money Saving Journey" in the previous couple of months because I was forced to realize just how important it is to save money. Mostly because, well, I'm going to Paris in 10 ten days and I'm panicking but let's not talk about that. Over the past few months, I've been slowly paying for hotels, bus tours, tour guide packages, etc. Along with having to buy a suitcase, backpack, travel-size everything and much more, my pennies were being stretched.
So. I decided to try and find little ways here and there and come up with strategies that best work for me to be able to save a lot more money and have a much more successful time when it comes to saving my dollar bills. So, if you're interested in knowing how to save money no matter if you're making $7 an hour or $200 an hour, maybe these simple and easy tips will help you to start saving money for the things you want most.
I personally keep a journal and every single time I "zero out" my checking account, I write it down in my book. At the end of every month, I'm able to see how much I've saved just by moving the odd amount of change from my checking account and it takes no effort. You can either transfer money for every day you DON'T spend money, which is what I do, or you can "zero-out" your checking account every single day. Either way, you're saving money little by little and it will pay off in the long run.
It's a simple way to keep track of saving pocket change and if someone out there wants an example of how I keep track of my finances in my journals, just let me know!
Not only will your budget make you think twice about using your $20 on a $15 t-shirt and you still have lunch to buy later, but it will also make you ask yourself if you're making an impulse buy or if it's something you actually love and want to own.
Eventually, you'll get used to second guessing yourself and starting wondering if you really need another pair of black booties when you already have five pairs that look very similar or maybe it's just a cute top that your friends are all telling you to get but it's not really your style. No matter the case, if you just learn to discipline yourself, it actually can be quite easy to save those extra dollars and put it towards something you're hoping to achieve. Such as a trip to Paris!

This one is pretty much a no-brainier as it's an obvious and easy way to save a few bucks when you're out and about getting things done. It's also sometimes not the easiest thing to do, however, but there are ways to make it a bit easier. If you're like me, you sometimes have to get up early in the morning for work or maybe you have a lot of running around to do. The easiest option when going about your day and you get hungry is to just stop by your favorite food place, order the usual and be on your merry way. If you're crunched for time in the morning or you simply are just too tired in the morning to make a quick lunch, here's a few tips that might help you:
- Make your lunch the night before so you have more time to think about your meal and plan it. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, there are plenty of healthy lunches that require zero cooking that are quick, simple, and filling.
- Research your meals and what you want to cook or put together for the whole week so that each day, you know exactly what you're going to put in your lunch bag every day.
- Make your meals for the next work week and store them all in ready-to-go containers. Simply just by preparing your lunches and keeping them in the fridge allows you to quickly grab your lunch as you're running out the door and also gives you some variety every morning.

This is probably the oldest tip in the book, but hey, it's a classic one for a reason. I've always been a bargain hunter from the day I was born. Pretty sure I was born with a few coupons in my hands but I love looking for an amazing product for a far cheaper price, no matter how long it takes me to find it. I will splurge on certain items and brands but it's very few. I just think it's insane to have to pay $15 for a product versus paying only $2 for the exact same product, just without the pretty packaging and the brand name. I couldn't care less who made it or where it's made or what celebrity is endorsing it. You could put Demi Lovato's face on it and charge me $50 for a tube of tooth paste and have it be the best most effective whitening and brightening toothpaste IN THE WHOLE WORLD . . . but I'm still gonna buy my good ole Colgate from the Dollar Store. Demi, I love you girl, we should be friends or get lunch some time, just sayin. You'd be surprised how much money you can save just by buying the off-brands products. It's the exact same product, just without a couple of bells and one less whistle.
This one is probably my favorite tip that I've been doing for the past few months just because of how easy it is. The whole point of "zero-ing out" your checking account is simply taking the odd amount of money that you have and moving it to your savings. You'd only be saving a few bucks every day but if you keep track of it, you might be shocked by just how much money you're able to save every month.
It's a simple way to keep track of saving pocket change and if someone out there wants an example of how I keep track of my finances in my journals, just let me know!
The last little tip that I have for right now is a bit of a harder one. It can be hard to stay within budget when there are so many shiny and cool things in the world. I should know, if something has anything Disney on it, it must be mine. However, this doesn't mean you can't treat yourself to a day out on the town or not hang out with your friends. By setting a specific spending limit for yourself, you're able to keep track of just how much money you're spending and be more aware of the prices of things. Maybe even withdraw your spending limit for the day in cash so you can see exactly how much you have left to spend.
